Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician and Quality Inspector will be considered a hybrid role consisting of two primary areas of responsibility - quality inspection and laboratory testing. Quality Inspection responsibilities include the inspection of inbound receiving, warehousing, and shipment of final product such that the product received, the product warehoused, and the product shipped is of acceptable quality and meets all quality requirements. Laboratory technician responsibilities include the testing of raw materials, in-process testing, and final product testing of products in accordance with customer’s specification requirements.

Quality Inspector – specific duties and responsibilities

Ø Review the unloading of inbound shipments ensuring all quality requirements are met and received material is of acceptable quality.

Ø Verify for accuracy and customer requirements the paperwork, product labeling and product packaging for the following:

o Processing of orders

o Warehouse shipments

o Warehouse receipts

Ø Review the outbound shipments ensuring all quality requirements are met and shipped material is of acceptable quality.

Ø Train warehouse operations in support of quality inspection initiatives that assure product quality.

Ø Document and report any discrepancies between actual product received and/or shipped versus paperwork received and/or shipping paperwork as a Situation Report.

Ø Troubleshoot receiving and shipping problems

Ø Develop processes and procedures to support Quality Inspection role

Ø Report non-conformities or discrepancies found as a Situation Report (SR)

Ø Assist in continuous improvement of quality inspection processes, procedures, and job aids to efficiently and effectively perform quality inspection role.

Ø Participate in audits – both internal and external

Ø Train warehouse operations in support of quality inspection initiatives that assure product quality.

Ø When appropriate, initiate corrective action and develop preventative actions that continuously improve to ensure error free shipping.

Laboratory – specific duties and responsibilities

Ø Assist with implementation and review of laboratory safety practices and procedures.

Ø Ensure laboratory equipment is in good working order and when necessary, order replacement parts as able.

Ø Daily cleaning of lab and equipment.

Ø Coordinate or pull samples for assessing quality of material – either inbound, in-process, or final product - dependent on need.

Ø Perform routine laboratory testing of samples, including:

o Proper calibration of equipment

o Testing of samples

o Completion of associated paperwork

o Documentation of results

o Report results as required

o Monitor and trend results as necessary when requested

Ø Maintain supplies required for laboratory testing.

Ø Assist in documenting laboratory processes and procedures to enhance laboratory quality assurance.

Ø Participate in audits – both internal and external.

Ø Assist in preparing customer required samples for shipment as required.

Ø Update spreadsheet with daily updates (for billing purposes)



Ø High School diploma or equivalent; College degreed candidates in chemistry, biology, or relate science a plus

Experience/Knowledge requirements

Ø Experience in bench top testing of inorganic and organic chemicals.

Ø Knowledge of general laboratory safety.

Ø Experience in laboratory environment and proficient at laboratory testing. Knowledge of quality systems, quality assurance, quality control, preferred

Ø Knowledge in Microsoft word, excel, power point

Ø Knowledge of structure and content of English language and proficient in verbal and written communication.

Ø Introductory position in quality.

Ø Experience and knowledge in ISO9001 standard preferred

Ø Experience and knowledge of Six Sigma process preferred

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 55 pounds.
