Systems Administrator (Waynesboro, VA)

Primary Responsibilities:

Participates in Project Planning

  • Produces plans for operational projects
  • Plans major project activities
  • Monitor networks
  • Plan and test patches, perform server patching
  • Produce upgrade plans for all major systems
  • Recommends operational projects and participates in departmental workload planning
  • Improves operational quality results by studying, evaluating, and recommending process re-design and implementing approved changes
  • Provides regular reporting on operational activities

Participates in Support Activities

  • Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems
  • Maintain system efficiency
  • Serves as primary escalation point for all support staff
  • Analyze and troubleshoot escalated problems relating to Desktops, Networks, Servers and Mobile Devices
  • Implements planned and approved upgrades
  • Maintain network devices, network addressing schemes and network security
  • Evaluate and modify system's performance.
  • Maintain integrity of the network, server deployment, and security.
  • Design and deploy networks.
  • Maintain configuration of authentication and authorization of directory services
  • Perform routine, planned and emergency server maintenance
  • Administer servers, desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, smartphones, software deployment, security updates and patches
  • Performs configuration updates on major systems as required

Manage support staff

  • Day-to-day management of support team
  • Engages in team and individual performance management
  • Holds team meetings and regular one-on-one meetings
  • Manages team staffing needs


  • Participates in team budget planning
  • 25% travel required


  • 4 year degree preferred
  • 2yrs Experience supporting Exchange based Email
  • 2yrs Windows Server 2008R2 and 2013 required, 2016 preferred but not required
  • 2yrs Active Directory maintenance and user account maintenance
  • 2yrs Networking experience (Cisco Meraki preferred)
  • 1-2yrs Experience developing and enforcing IT operational processes and procedures
  • 2yrs Experience supporting Windows 7 and 10
  • Experience supporting end-users (required)
  • Experience supporting logistics systems (WMS, TMS, ELD – preferred not required)
  • Experience performing Server Patching and maintenance for a medium sized organization (6-10 servers)
